Description

Occurs where wet and dry layers overlap during painting.

Probable Cause

  • Wet and dry layers of applied paint have been overlapped

  • Failure to maintain a wet edge during application

  • Painting too large an area at one time

  • Painting when temperatures are above 90 F

  • Inadequate stirring and over thinning

Solutions

  • An additional finish coat usually will hide lap marks

  • Proper priming will help avoid lapping on new work

  • Always paint from wet to dry and in small sections to keep a wet edge

  • Plan natural breaks like doors, windows, and corners

  • Paint when the temperature is under 90 F

Primers & Interior Finishes

  • Priming is essential for stronger adhesion, sheen uniformity, mildew control, and durability.

  • Select a top quality California Paints interior paint in the color and sheen of your choice.
